Cat Grooming

Cat Grooming in Abu Dhabi

At GVC, grooming is not about appearance. It is about your cat’s comfort, health, and emotional wellbeing. Our Cat Wellness Grooming service is designed specifically for cats who require assistance with personal hygiene due to medical, physical, or behavioural reasons. Every session is carried out by veterinary-trained staff certified in Fear Free and Cat Friendly handling, ensuring your cat is cared for with skill, patience, and minimal stress throughout the grooming process.

Cats are natural groomers. When they are unable to groom themselves properly, this can lead to discomfort, painful matting, skin problems, or reduced quality of life. In these situations, grooming becomes a medical intervention, not a cosmetic choice offered by pet salons.

Why Wellness Grooming Is Different at GVC

Unlike grooming salons, which focus on aesthetics and styling, wellness grooming at GVC is delivered within a veterinary and Fear Free framework.

Cats are highly sensitive to their environment. Noise, unfamiliar handling, strong smells, and busy surroundings can make grooming extremely stressful. Many non-veterinary grooming environments are not equipped to manage feline anxiety, pain, or underlying medical conditions.

At GVC, grooming takes place in a calm, controlled clinical environment, carried out by a trained veterinary nurse and supervised by our veterinarians. Every decision is guided by your cat’s health, comfort, and emotional state. You can read more about the principles behind this approach on our Cat Friendly & Fear Free clinic page on the website.

When Is Cat Wellness Grooming Recommended?

Cat Wellness Grooming may be appropriate for those who:

Medical Grooming Services Offered

GVC provides the following medical grooming services:

Nail trimming:

Nail trims are usually quick and well tolerated even by nervous cats, often needing no sedation at all

Sanitary shaving:

Sanitary shaving keeps the area around the tail and hindquarters clean and free of matting or soiling, which is especially important for senior or overweight cats who struggle to reach and clean themselves

Mat removal:

Matting that has become tight, painful, or attached to the skin is removed carefully rather than brushed out, since forcing a brush through severe mats can cause pain and tear the skin.

Medical body trimming (full body trim to a suitable, pre-agreed length):

A full body trim shortens the coat to an agreed length to improve comfort and coat manageability. This option is often recommended for cats with recurring matting, mobility issues, or medical conditions that make regular coat maintenance difficult.

These procedures are performed solely to support health, comfort, and quality of life.

What to Expect During Your Cat's Grooming Visit

Before the grooming session starts a brief assessment is conducted on your cat’s fur, skin mobility and temperament. If your cat is calm during the assessment, they may be groomed consciously using calm, fear-free handling. If they show signs of significant stress or anxiety, we may recommend pre-visit pharmaceuticals (PVP) and, if needed, sedation to help make the experience safer and less stressful.

Throughout the session, our veterinary nurse works at your cat’s pace, taking breaks or stopping whenever your cat needs them. A veterinarian is also available to oversee the session and provide support if required. Before the visit, we encourage you to share any concerns about your cat’s health, behaviour, or coat condition so we can tailor the grooming experience to their individual needs.

Behavioural Assessment, Sedation & Clinical Oversight

All grooming procedures are assessed using both medical and behavioural criteria.
GVC does not proceed with grooming procedures that would compromise a cat’s emotional well-being or safety.

GVC’s Commitment to Feline Welfare

Grooming is often misunderstood and frequently compared to salon-based services. At GVC, grooming is approached as a veterinary procedure, not a cosmetic service. This distinction is central to our commitment to improving feline welfare across the UAE.
